Symbols of State

Symbols embody the integrity and dignity of a country and bring pride to its people. Consequently, their use is protected and it is an offence to cause or to allow to be caused by action or inaction the symbols to be misused. The symbols must treated with reverence by all.

The National Flag

Description: A flag of 3:2 ratio consisting of three equal vertical bands of red, white and black, the red is always flown closest to the staff.

 

Use: The National Flag is the primary symbol of the Markonia and has precedence over all other flags in the territories of Markonia. The National Flag should be given equal prominence in a display alongside foreign flags. The National Flag shall be lowered to half-mast at the direction of the Prince.

The State Flag

Description: A flag of 3:2 ratio consisting of a red Nordic cross with black bands on a white background and the National Flag in the canton, the canton is always flown closest to the staff.

 

Use: The State Flag is restricted to use by the Government, it will be flown from government buildings during working hours where there is more than one staff. (the National Flag should be flown where there is only one staff.) The State Flag should not be flown in a display alongside foreign national flags. The State Flag shall be lowered to half-mast at the direction of the Prince.

The Coat of Arms

Description: A shield of three equal bars of red, white and black. The crest a princely crown. Supporters two grey wolves rampant gardant. A scroll with the motto "Fidus et Audax" (meaning Faithful and Audacious) on the compartment below the shield with a wreath of olive branches.

 

Use: The Coat of Arms represents the authority of the State and is restricted to use by the Government, it will often be used on official documents and elsewhere. It is an offence to pass-off a document as official without authority.
